The US Zyrtec and Claritin manufacturer FAQs say their products may be taken with or without food. That answers whether a meal is required; it does not replace the amount, interval, age limits or administration instructions on the exact package.
For Children’s Zyrtec syrup 1 mg/mL and Children’s Claritin liquid 5 mg/5 mL, the labels direct use of the enclosed dosing cup. Food timing does not change which liquid or device the instructions describe. Do not measure with a kitchen spoon or borrow the directions for another bottle.

The 2.5 mg and 10 mg Zyrtec chewables must be chewed or crushed completely before swallowing; water is optional. The 10 mg Dissolve Tab melts in the mouth and also does not require water. Optional water does not make a chewable a tablet to swallow whole.
The reviewed labels and brand FAQs do not provide a mixing recipe for these exact products. A statement that food is optional does not establish how to mix a dose into a meal, how long a mixture keeps, or what to do if only part is consumed. Ask a pharmacist about the exact product if ordinary administration is difficult.
Equate dye-free grape NDC 49035-276-09, CVS bubble gum NDC 59779-837-34 and Walgreens grape NDC 0363-3393-26 each direct use of their enclosed cup. Their reviewed Drug Facts do not specify meal timing. This guide does not extend a branded FAQ into a package-specific mixing or food instruction for another manufacturer.
